Sheep Skin Hut August 2012
Trip Leader: Bob Woolley
Attendees: Gartland Family, Andrew & Caitlin Driscoll, Colin & Marge Higgins, Aaron & Abbey Gibson
Visitors: Bill Hobbs, Ben
We all meet up at the Shell service station at Wilberforce at 8:30am where we all had a quick chat and met Bill and Ben who would be visitors on this trip. After a few people filled up it was off down the putty road to Grey Gums for breakfast. Once we arrived at Grey Gums we were greeted by a half a dozen red Ferraris and one yellow lambargine in the car park also out for a drive on this sunny winters day. We all ordered breakfast and coffees etc. from the shop and commented on how clean the facility’s where along with the great service and quality food. Definitely a recommended stop if you’re going past.
Once breakfast was over we all continued down the Putty past the old half way house and turned left onto Commission road where a few people aired down and we hit the dirt and a few Ks in a few people tried the power line track up a steep hill and step up near the end that provided some strategic driving.
It was a fairly easy drive to sheepskin hut with a few small puddles to get dirty in and we all had lunch and looked around before leaving for the drive home. But only a few kilometres out Colin and Marge said they had a knocking noise coming from the back we all stopped and inspected the area and found a rock wedged near the shock mount and this was removed but the noise was still there and a few hundred metres we stopped again and found all the wheel nuts where loose on the back wheel. Ciaran tried to tighten them and with his superior strength broke a wheel stud after this we removed the wheel for inspection and put it back on again and the noise was gone but only to return a few kilometres down the trap and a quick re tighten and we were off again with no further problems.
We all reached the Putty road and check the wheel nuts again before all leaving for home
