Newnes 15th and 16th May
Attendees: Andrew and Caitlin, Mark Sharon and Kirsty, Aaron, Brian Sharon Ben and Thomas, Paul and visitor Stephen.
Brian Sharon and Paul had all gone up on Friday with the rest of us arriving early Saturday to find the temperature near zero. The first hour or so was spent trying to locate Stephen without any luck before deciding it was time to set up camp. It was decide to have an early lunch before heading out for a drive up Blackfellows Hand Trail. The drive up Blackfellows to Bungleboori was an easy drive with just one tree across the track to navigate around. We were all most impressed to see a couple of blinged up hiace vans making there way down the track but were not sure how the would get around the tree.
After reaching Bungleboori we split into 2 groups with half of us heading down to the glow worm tunnel and the rest of us making a quick trip to Lost City before heading back to camp to get a fire and dinner under way. Those who went to the Glow worm Tunnel were quite late getting back as the track had been closed some distance before the car park which added a couple of Km’s to the walk in.
Post dinner we sat around the fire with a few drinks but with the temperature dropping near zero again the warmth of a sleeping bag won out.
Sunday morning saw a few of the group head off for a walk around the ruins while the rest of waited on the sun to dry out gear for packing up. While we were standing around we finally found Stephen, who we had looked for a several times, camping next to us…. Whoops. We had a good chat with him and hopefully we’ll see him out on another trip in the near future.
A good weekend was had by all.
